The Arc NW seeks a part-time Communications Coordinator

This is a 10-hour/month contractual position to assist with marketing publications and social media presence.  This position is suitable for a student or someone with a background in marketing, graphic design, communications, or related field.  Knowledge of the disabilities community and related information is a plus.  Interested persons may apply by sending a resume and letter of interest directly to Gretchen Sanewsky, Executive Director, at gsanewsky@thearcnw.org.

Position Description

Nature of Work

The Communications Coordinator’s responsibility is to organize and distribute public correspondence to provide the community and individuals information that will further The Arc’s mission and support the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The Communications Coordinator is a contractual position.

Responsibilities and Skills

Include but not limited to:

  • Works under the direction of the Executive Director.  Works in collaboration with Development Director and Web Designer.
  • Uphold The Arc of Northwest Wayne County’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform tasks that support the goals and objectives of The Arc of Northwest Wayne County’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Use diplomacy and tact when communicating on behalf of The Arc of Northwest Wayne County.
  • Publish, edit, compile and write articles for newsletters to be printed by staff at The Arc of Northwest Wayne County in August, September, October, November, December/January, February, March, April and May.
  • Edit, compile and write articles and information pieces for The Arc of Northwest Wayne County’s web site, Facebook page (and other relevant social networks), local newspapers (community life and calendars sections), public service announcements, and other media outlets.
  • Coordinate the distribution of information through the newsletter, articles, web site, videos (YouTube, etc.) Facebook (and other relevant social networks), blogs, emails, text messages, local newspapers, radio announcements, television networks and all other public communication methods.
  • Maintain and keep current information published or posted in the newsletter, web site, Facebook (and other relevant social networks), blogs, emails, and any other public communication methods.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the executive director as to the status and content of the information published in the newsletter, web site, Facebook page (or other social network), public media (including local newspapers, news casts, radio, etc.)
  • Attend appropriate meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences approved by the executive director to expand effectiveness.
  • Other communications coordination related tasks.
  • All communications must comply with all The Arc brand guidelines 2021.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Resources

The ability to navigate, manage and access public media (local newspapers, television, radio), social network(s), web site(s), newsletter publications, abilities and skills.  Knowledge of the disabilities community, relevant information and publications a plus.

Required Background Check:

A background check is required for all positions; information needed includes, but is not limited to: Current and Previous Address, Current and Previous Name, Driver’s License Number, Birth Date, Social Security Number.  A copy of the Criminal Background Check will be retained confidentially in a secure, locked file at The Arc of Northwest Wayne County.
