Project Information & Criteria for Focus Group Participation
Focus Groups are being held for the purpose of identifying the environmental factors—including policies, community programs, facilities, and personal supports—that promote healthy and active living among adults with physical disabilities, especially for those at risk for poor outcomes because of lack of resources, severity of disability, location, or other circumstances.
For the focus groups, we seek individuals who:
- believe they are leading healthy, active lives;
- are 18 years or older and can speak and read English;
- have had severe, permanent physical disability for at least 5 years, which requires a person or device to assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing) and / or getting around the community; and
- are willing to be recorded in a group interview, which will be analyzed by researchers.
We need 30 participants from within the city limits of Flint and 30 from Detroit. We are seeking a diversity of participants, with relationships and experiences with different programs, communities, parts of the city, and networks, including different demographics and disabilities.
Individuals who are interested in participating will call our office to be screened. Each participant will only be in only one focus group which will last 3-4 hours. They will receive $100 for their time and effort. The focus groups will be held from now through the Spring in a location that is easily accessible. Snow and ice days will be avoided.
